ASE/EM Professor K. Ravi-Chandar was selected to give three prestigious lectures this spring semester.
On April 11, Ravi-Chandar spoke at the 2013 Mach Conference in Annapolis, Maryland. The conference encourages interaction between the academic community and top government researchers. Ravi’s Mach lecture is titled “Experimental Characterization of Nonlinear Material Response.”
In Houston, Texas on May 22, Ravi-Chandar will give a plenary lecture at the XIII Pan American Conference of Applied Mechanics. This conference is a biennial event held “to promote progress in the broad field of mechanics.” Ravi will speak on “Ductile Deformation and Failure - Multiscale Experiments.”
Earlier this year on January 24, Ravi-Chandar delivered a lecture titled “Some Experiments on Nonlinear Waves in Solids” at Caltech’s James Knowles Lecture and Caltech Solid Mechanics Symposium.
Ravi-Chandar holds the Temple Foundation Professorship #1. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Fracture. His research interests are in mechanical behavior of materials at high strain rates, fracture in nominally brittle materials, shear banding in polymeric materials and phase transformation in shape memory alloys. He is affiliated with the Center for Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Materials.
