"It is essential that we understand the impact hurricanes have on society, something that scientific research can help us do," says Clint Dawson, ASE/EM professor and head of the Computational Hydraulics Group. "In recent years, local, state and federal agencies have grappled with questions of how best to protect vulnerable populations from the impacts of storm surge, and how to evacuate regions in advance of an approaching storm."
