Thomas HughesProfessor Thomas J. R. Hughes has been selected to receive the Joe J. King Professional Engineering Achievement Award.

The Cockrell School-wide award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and research, as well as made significant contributions in furthering the profession of engineering.

Dr. Hughes is commended worldwide for his research that applies computational methods to a wide variety of engineering and health-related issues. Additionally, he is the only faculty member at the Cockrell School of Engineering who has been elected both to the National Academy of Science and the National Academy of Engineering and most recently as a Foreign Member of The Royal Society.

He will be recognized at the Cockrell School commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 3, at 9 a.m.
