The Special Achievement Award for Young Investigators in Applied Mechanics, an award given annually by the Applied Mechanics Division, of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), has been renamed the Thomas J.R. Hughes Young Investigator Award.

The Award will be presented to one of our own facutly members, Dr. Chad Landis, at the Applied Mechanics Annual Dinner at the ASME Congress.

Dr. Hughes is an internationally known expert in computational engineering and sciences and has published over 300 scientific works on computational mechanics, and is the author or editor of eighteen books.

He joined the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics in the fall 2002 semester. Hughes holds the Computational and Applied Mathematics Chair III and is affiliated with the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences.
