The 3rd Edition of Professor Roy Craig’s textbook, Mechanics of Materials, has just been published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Dr. Craig taught in the Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics Department for 40 years, retiring in 2001. Although he taught a wide variety of ASE and EM courses during that time, Craig specialized in Mechanics of Solids (EM 319), Aerospace Structures (ASE 321K), and Structural Dynamics (ASE 365 and EM 384L). He was instrumental in the development of the department’s instructional computer laboratory, and he introduced computerized data acquisition to the ASE Measurements and Instrumentation course (ASE 369K).

UT Mechanical Engineering Professor Eric Taleff wrote a brief subsection on “Wire Rope,” leading to the choice of a photograph of the cable-stayed bridge for the cover of the 3rd Edition of Mechanics of Materials.

Professor Craig’s structural dynamics textbook was originally published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. in 1981 as Structural Dynamics – An Introduction to Computer Methods. A 2nd edition, re-titled Fundamentals of Structural Dynamics, was co-authored with Professor Andrew Kurdila and published by Wiley in 2006.
