Abstract: Flashback in gas turbine swirl combustors constitutes a potentially catastrophic failure mode. We are investigating flashback experimentally in a model swirl combustor with focus on the upstream flame propagation. High-speed particle image velocimetry data and flame luminescence recordings will be presented to reveal the flow-flame interaction. Mixtures of hydrogen and methane are investigated.
