Stavros GaitanarosDr. Stavros Gaitanaros, Ph.D. Engineering Mechanics 2014, was one of three young scientists selected to receive the Bureau Prize based on a paper and presentation to the 2016 Congress of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM). This main event in mechanics is held every four years; this year the Congress was held in Montreal, Canada, August 21-26 and was attended by approximately 2,100 researchers.

To be eligible for the award, a presenter must be no older than 35 years of age at the time of the Congress and must indicate that he/she wishes to be considered for the award.

Gaitanaros, an assistant professor in civil engineering at Johns Hopkins University, was the recipient for solid mechanics. He was selected for the paper title and presentation "The effect of Polydispersity on the Crushing of Open-Cell Random Foams," by Stavros Gaitanaros, Stelios Kyriakides, Andrew M. Kraynik.
