Sarah KittenSarah Kitten, academic coordinator and advisor for the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at The University of Texas at Austin, has been recognized with two awards for her work in advising.

Kitten was selected to receive an Outstanding Advising Administrator Award Certificate of Merit from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) as part of the 2016 Annual Awards Program for Academic Advising. She will be presented with the award in St. Louis, MO during the NACADA Annual Conference in October.

The award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising administration. Since 1983, NACADA has honored individuals and institutions making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising. NACADA’s mission is to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to enhance the educational development of students.

Kitten was also selected to receive the 2017 Cockrell School of Engineering Staff Excellence Award, which will be presented at an awards ceremony on May 11.

The award recognizes selected non-teaching personnel who have distinguished themselves and who have contributed significantly to the effectiveness of the teaching, advising, counseling, and research efforts of the Cockrell School. These awards honor dedicated individuals who are recognized by their supervisors and peers as having performed exceptional and meritorious service.

As academic advising coordinator, Kitten does more than just work closely with students in advising capacity. She also assists with curriculum development, facilitates scholarships, leads student recruitment and retention, supervises peer advisors and oversees the LUNAR (Leadership, Undergraduate Networking and Recruitment) Council.

Over the ten years Kitten has worked in the department, she has been recognized with the President’s Outstanding Staff Award, the Texas Exes James W. Vick Award for Academic Advising, the Cockrell School Staff Excellence Award and the ASE/EM Department Staff Excellence Award.
