How do I get an email account?You are entitled to a free e-mail account while you are at UT. Give your e-mail address to the Graduate Coordinator as soon as possible. Most announcements by the ASE Graduate Program will be sent by e-mail, so you need to get your address as soon as possible and read your mail regularly. Priority is given to TAs and RAs. How do I get keys?Dr. Chad Landis will provide you with a key request form once your desk assignment has been made. Take the form to the Graduate Coordinator, Tina Woods (WRW 215D), then turn the form into Rosina Esquivel at the WRW Front Office. Once the form has been finally approved, proceed to the Keys Building on 24th street. How do I get a parking permit?Graduate students with half-time appointments (20 hours/week) can purchase a "G" parking permit which allows parking on campus in designated areas. Also, parking garage permits are available. See the Graduate Coordinator for a letter of authorization. For more information on parking, visit the Parking and Transportation website. Where can I receive mail in the building?There are two kinds of regular mail at UT: US mail and Campus mail. Official graduate student mail can be picked up from the Graduate Coordinator (WRW 215D). Please do not have personal mail sent to you through the Department. It will be returned to the sender. Are there computers I can use?Yes, in the second-floor Learning Resource Center. Identify yourself to the proctor on duty. Graduate students can request a key card for night access. When and how do we do advising?Each semester you must be advised. Once you receive the notice via email, pick up your advising form from the receptionist in WRW 215. Next, discuss with your advisor what classes you will take, obtain your advisor’s signature (new students must also obtain the ASE Graduate Advisor’s signature in their first semester) and return the form to the receptionist. After your advising bar is cleared you can register. How do I apply to become a TA?Pick up an application either from the Graduate Coordinator or the graduate bulletin board. Complete the form, have it signed by your advisor, and return it to the Graduate Coordinator. Selections will be made close to the first class day, and a notice of those assigned will be posted. I want to change advisors. What do I do?Get the necessary form from the Graduate Coordinator, Tina Woods (WRW 215D) and have the completed form signed by both former and new advisors, the Area Coordinator and the Graduate Advisor. I have decided I want to change majors. What do I need to do now?Talk to faculty in your intended major and be sure they will accept you. Go to Graduate Admissions and fill out paper work.
