Research Interests:
Dr. Babuska specializes in numerical solution of partial differential equations, especially the finite element method, and applied mathematics in general. His major field of application is continuum mechanics. Dr. Babuska has served in the Cockrell School of Engineering faculty since 1995. He has received many honors and awards, including the Gauss-Newton Medal from the U.S. Association for Computational Mechanics, and several honorary doctorates from various universities around the world. The asteroid 3060 is named Babuska in his honor. He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Member of the Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas. He has published more than 300 scientific publications in the field of mathematics, numerics and mechanics. Several of his books were translated into various languages and he is the member of more than 15 international journals.
