Admissions

Requirements

To be eligible for graduate study in Engineering Mechanics, students must satisfy the following minimum requirements:
  • Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. The ASE/EM Department requires that your degree be in a scientific field. If you do not have a degree in Engineering Mechanics, you may be required to take two or three undergraduate courses to make up the deficiency. The graduate advisor will make the recommendations.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or comparable grade point average in upper-division junior- and senior-level work and in any graduate work already completed.
  • Have a minimum of 1000 on the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination. The average for students admitted to this department is over 1250 (V+Q).
  • Have a minimum of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (international students.)
  • Be recommended for admission by the Graduate Studies Committee in your proposed major. All completed applications are reviewed by the Graduate Studies Committee of the Department. The graduate dean must approve the recommendations of the GSC. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission due to limited space, limited funding or faculty availability.

Deadlines

  • The University's priority deadline for Fall is January 7, Spring is October 1, however, the department has flexible deadlines as we are always seeking outstanding applicants.
