Mach 5 wind tunnel

The Mach 3 wind tunnel facility is seen at the upper left in the photo. The pressure difference which drives the flow is established by an upstream air supply at 200 psi, and vacuum conditions downstream. Also seen are the Nd:YAG laser (bottom), dye laser (center right), and external frequency doubling/mixing units (center) used in the nitric oxide fluorescence experiments in the supersonic wake.
