The objectives of the Aerospace Engineering Degree Program are:
- to prepare students for professional practice in aerospace engineering and related engineering & scientific fields.
- to prepare students for post-baccalaureate education as their aptitude and professional goals may dictate.
- to instill in students a commitment to life long education and ethical behavior throughout their professional careers.
- to provide students with an awareness of the effects of technology in a contemporary global and societal context.
These objectives are accomplished through a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes fundamentals in basic sciences, mathematics, and the humanities & integrates classroom and laboratory experiences in the engineering disciplines of aerodynamics and propulsion, structural mechanics, mechanics of material, flight mechanics & control, orbital mechanics, computation, measurements & instrumentation, design & technical communications. The curriculum requires students to use modern engineering tools to work individually and to practice team-work.
Graduates of the Aerospace Engineering Program should have:
- The ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry and engineering science to solve engineering problems.
- The ability to identify, formulate, and solve problems in aerospace structures, air-breathing and rocket propulsion, flight dynamics, and flight control systems using modern engineering techniques and tools.
- The ability to analyze and perform preliminary design of components of aerospace structures, air-breathing and rocket propulsion systems, and flight control systems using modern engineering rechniques and tools.
- The ability to work on a multi-disciplinary team to perform conceptual design of aircraft or spacecraft that will meet a set of mission requirements.
- The ability to design and conduct experiments and alalyze and interpret data.
- The ability to communicate effectively in oral, wirtten, and graphical form.
- The ability to recognize the impact of engineering systems on the environment and society and an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
- Recognition of the need and the ability to engage in lifelong learning.
