Print Button

The department is happy to announce that the UT Satellite Ground Station became operational Monday, October 20 at 9:30am local time by successfully tracking its first low Earth orbiting satellite.  The satellite was the PCsat, an amateur radio satellite constructed by the U.S. Naval Academy. By the day’s end several more satellites had been tracked. This represents a milestone on the path to having an internet accessible, all-mode ground station suited for a broad spectrum of tasks ranging from student use in lab classes to critical data collection from research satellites. The tracking station is located on the 4th floor of WRW and utilizes the Air Force MightSat tracking station high gain antenna dish located on the roof of WRW.

Congratulations to Dr. Glenn Lightsey and his student team, led by Thomas Campbell.  Stay tuned for more good news from the Satellite Design Lab team!
