Connecting to the Linux Systems

The Linux systems can be connected to via ssh and sftp. On Windows, use SSH Secure Shell Client. On the Macs, use Terminal. To get the full X Windows desktop enviroment use X-Win32 (only available on Windows within WRW). SSH clients are available from Bevoware.

Using Linux Systems for Email

Both asecl and chaos are configured as email servers. Email sent to either systems is delivered to a common mail spool. Email can be checked off either system using a mail client that supports secure imap or secure pop3. Guidelines for Running Jobs

• Do not run more than one CPU or memory intensive job on a single system at a time. Spread your jobs across the systems or batch them to run one after another.
• Use a restart file if job runs for several hours or days.
• Use the /tmp directory if your job writes large temporary files while it runs.
• After job finishes, delete temporary files created during run.

Disk Quotas

• The default disk quota is 200Mb.
• To request a quota increase send mail to lrc@mail.ae.utexas.edu.
• Quota increases will not be given for personal web pages.
