The LRC has four Ethernet ports for connecting laptops to the network. Several other ports are in the basement of WRW.

Connecting a Macintosh


  1. To configure the networking on your Mac, select the TCP/IP from the Apple menu in the upper left corner.

  2. Select Ethernet from Connect via: in the TCP/IP menu.
  3. Select Using DHCP Server from Configure in the TCP/IP menu. You do not have to set IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router Address, or Name server address.

  4. Click Quit to close the TCP/IP menu.

Your Laptop should now communicate via the ethernet, if not ask the proctor on duty for help.


Connecting a PC (Windows 9x or Windows NT)

 

  1. To configure the networking on your PC, select the icon My Computer usually in the upper left screen corner and double click on the folder Control Panel.

  2. Select the Network by double clicking on the network icon in the Control Panel menu.

  3. For Windows NT Select Protocols and single click on Properties from the Network window.
  4. For Windows 95 or 98 Select Configuration and single click on Properties from the Network window.
    * Note: For Windows 95 or 98, the network componet
    Client for Microsoft Networks must be installed. Click here for how to install Client for Microsoft Networks.

  5. Select IP Address and mark Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server from the Microsoft TCP/IP Properties window.

  6. Single click on Apply and/or OK.
  7. For Windows 95 or 98 select WINS Configuration and mark Enable WINS Resolution from the TCP/IP Properties window.
  8. For Windows NT select WINS Address from the Microsoft TCP/IP Properties window.

  9. Type in the numbers 146.6.104.19 for the Primary WINS Server and 146.6.104.20 for the Secondary WINS Server, when done single click OK.
  10. From the network window select Identification.

  11. Enter ASE.EM_LRC for Workgroup. Pick a unique Computer Name. Computer description is optional.
  12. Logout and login as laptop.

  13. The password is the room number of the ASE/EM LRC.
  14. Start Explorer and select Tools from the Exploring window, mouse click on Map Network Drive.

  15. In the Map Network Drive window enter \\LRC SERVER\PUBLIC.

  16. You should have a new drive PUBLIC on 'LRC SERVER'.

Your Laptop can now communicate via the ethernet and have PUBLIC mapped as a network drive, if not ask the proctor on duty for help.


Connecting a PC (Windows 2000)
