The LRC has four Ethernet ports for connecting laptops to the network. Several other ports are in the basement of WRW.
Connecting a Macintosh
- To configure the networking on your Mac, select the TCP/IP from the Apple menu in the upper left corner.
- Select Ethernet from Connect via: in the TCP/IP menu.
- Select Using DHCP Server from Configure in the TCP/IP menu. You do not have to set IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router Address, or Name server address.
- Click Quit to close the TCP/IP menu.
Your Laptop should now communicate via the ethernet, if not ask the proctor on duty for help.
Connecting a PC (Windows 9x or Windows NT)
- To configure the networking on your PC, select the icon My Computer usually in the upper left screen corner and double click on the folder Control Panel.
- Select the Network by double clicking on the network icon in the Control Panel menu.
- For Windows NT Select Protocols and single click on Properties from the Network window.
- For Windows 95 or 98 Select Configuration and single click on Properties from the Network window.
* Note: For Windows 95 or 98, the network componet Client for Microsoft Networks must be installed. Click here for how to install Client for Microsoft Networks.
- Select IP Address and mark Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server from the Microsoft TCP/IP Properties window.
- Single click on Apply and/or OK.
- For Windows 95 or 98 select WINS Configuration and mark Enable WINS Resolution from the TCP/IP Properties window.
- For Windows NT select WINS Address from the Microsoft TCP/IP Properties window.
- Type in the numbers 146.6.104.19 for the Primary WINS Server and 146.6.104.20 for the Secondary WINS Server, when done single click OK.
- From the network window select Identification.
- Enter ASE.EM_LRC for Workgroup. Pick a unique Computer Name. Computer description is optional.
- Logout and login as laptop.
- The password is the room number of the ASE/EM LRC.
- Start Explorer and select Tools from the Exploring window, mouse click on Map Network Drive.
- In the Map Network Drive window enter \\LRC SERVER\PUBLIC.
- You should have a new drive PUBLIC on 'LRC SERVER'.
Your Laptop can now communicate via the ethernet and have PUBLIC mapped as a network drive, if not ask the proctor on duty for help.
