Getting Started

Who is able to use the lab? The LRC is open to all Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics students, faculty, and staff, as well as students currently enrolled in a ASE or EM course.  Your  UTID will be required for lab use and to check out user manuals.
How do I get a Linux Account? ASE or EM student as well as students currently enrolled in a ASE or EM courses will receive a Linux account upon creaton of a LRC User account. See the Linux page for information
Can I access the lab after hours? After hours access is available to all ASE/EM majors, undergraduate and graduate. The LRC recently updgraded to a new system that uses your UT ID card. To use the new system, students must go to the UT ID Center and acquire a UT Proximity ID card. After you receive your UT Proximity ID card, stop by the LRC Proctor desk and fill out an LRC Policy Form and turn it in to Phillip Baird in WRW 205a (located inside the LRC). Non-card holders will be required to exit the lab promptly at the end of normal operating hours.
Do I have access to the Internet? All workstations in the LRC are connected to the campus network and Internet. Web browsers are installed on each system.
Can I get Email in the Lab? Email is available through web browsers using Webmail. If you don't have an email account, we recommend opening one using The University Mailbox Service (UMBS).  
What hardware is available in the Lab?

PC: 60 Pentium 4 PCs (Windows XP).

All systems have DVD-RW burners.

An LCD projector connected to the Instructor work station is installed in the ceiling of the back room.

Scanners are also avialable on the, Instructor station, and two PCs.

What software is available in the Lab? Microsoft Office 2007, Matlab, Adobe Design Suite CS2, Labview, Solid Works, Pro E and Internet clients are just a few of the applications installed on lab machines.   A complete listing of LRC software is available.
How can I print?

Laser printing is available from all LRC systems. 

The LRC has 3 black and white laser printers, a color laser printer and a color poster printer.

Can I access my Windows Home directory from outside the LRC? See the instructions on how to connect from a PC (requires Windows NT, 2000, or XP) or Mac.
How do I access the Public file server? See the instuctions on how to access the Public file server.
Can I access the Public server from outside the LRC? The Public server can be accessed from home if you have internet access.  See the instuctions on how to access the Public file server from outside the LRC.
Can I publish on the web? Students can publish their personal home page from their Linux account.  Please see instructions for web publishing.
HELP! The LRC web pages should be your first resource--review the information on the LRC Home Page.  Manuals are also available for checkout from the Proctor on duty.  After you have consulted these two sources, the Proctors will be happy to assist you.
