ASE 396: Modern Analysis Tools in Turbulence

Learning outcomes of this course include: The nature of turbulence, scaling laws, turbulent transport and the dynamics of turbulence; statistical mechanics, spectral density functions and classical methods of analysis.  An appreciation for modern experimental techniques (transducers and laser diagnostic tools like LDA and PIV) and methods for estimating their uncertainties.  Students will learn about data post-processing techniques including conditional sampling, wavelet transforms, the invarient theorem, structure eduction techniques such as the vortex methods, proper orthogonal decomposition and stochastic estimation.
