RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE WORK
This section presents recommendations for future
groups from Ultra Flite. First, refilm a different hummingbird in hovering
flight to confirm our results of the wing motion pattern. This is necessary
in order to understand the aerodynamics of the hummingbird while in hovering
flight. The knowledge acquired from the film will be used to create a better
aerodynamic model. Next, obtain the new CT-Scan of the adult hummingbird
so a three-dimensional model of the entire hummingbird can be created.
This model will be the foundation on which to create a space-frame model.
When the two models are completed, they should be entered in MSC/NASTRAN
in order to obtain an aeroelastic analysis. After the results are analyzed,
future groups can relate them to MAV requirements and technology. Finally,
the outcome of these relations can be applied to determine if a robotic
hummingbird can be created within DARPA’s specifications.
