The mirror was purchased for use in the mirror assembly. The mirror assembly was constructed with other materials such as wood, nails and sandpaper, but there were no additional costs necessary for those materials. A black poster will be purchased for the use of filming the hummingbird. The poster will be placed at the back and bottom of the glass box to attain a better contrast between the bird and the background.
The CT scan will be conducted on a deceased hummingbird provided by Dr. Chai of the Zoology Department. The CT scan will cost approximately $260 for actual time use. The cost stated is only for a scan that lasts 2 ½ hrs. For finer slices of the scan, the total scan time will increase which will add to the final scanning cost.
Further purchase costs may incur for acquiring an import/export translator from SDRC. At this time, we do not know if this purchase is required, but if the data attained from the CT scan is compatible with the I-DEAS package, we may decide to purchase the translator. Also, MSC/NASTRAN v70 manuals may be purchased to help understand the differences between prior versions and the new version on our computers. The new manuals may help with prior versions code compatibility problems.
