Collection of GPS data by ASE272N students has been accomplished in the past using
hand-held receivers and laptop computers. In an effort to streamline the data collection
process, GPS backpack systems available from U.S. Positioning have been acquired. This
website details the procedures necessary to supplant the hand-held receiver based system
with the backpack system. Problems with both the new hardware and software were
explored and solutions were formulated. Many of the difficulties encountered come from
the fact that the backpacks are WAAS enabled.
