376K. Propulsion. Aspects of one-dimensional compressible flow, including isentropic flow and normal shocks; effects of friction and combustion; analysis and design of rockets and air-breathing engines, including performance and cycle analysis; flow in nozzles, diffusers, compressors, and turbines; combustion chamber processes and propellants. Prerequisite: Aerospace Engineering 320 and Mechanical Engineering 326 with a grade of at least C in each.

• Any standard text on Fluid Mechanics with a couple of chapters on Compressible Flow - your ASE 320 text will be fine.
• Rocket Propulsion Elements, 7th edition, G. P. Sutton & O. Biblarz, Wiley-Interscience, 2001. Earlier editions (Sutton sole author) are also useful, there are several copies in the library.  Lots of good information on rocket design.
• Aerothermodynamics of Gas Turbine and Rocket Propulsion, G. C. Oates, AIAA Education Series, 1984. Many formulas and gives the standard engine station numbering. Good reference book if you already understand jet propulsion.
• Jet Propulsion, Nicholas Cumpsty, Cambridge University Press, 2nd ed, 2003. I really like this book. It is light on "formulas", and emphasizes understanding.
• Elements of Gas Turbine Propulsion, Jack D. Mattingly, McGraw-Hill, Inc., 1996. Comprehensive coverage of gas turbines, many graphs showing parametric variations, and pages of equations with loads of Greek symbols.
